Trisha Calvarese Becomes First Colorado Democrat to Sound the Alarm on Redistricting

In a recent TikTok interview, Democratic congressional candidate Trisha Calvarese made waves by openly calling for redistricting reform in Colorado. With just two words — “let’s go” — she became the first Democrat in the state to publicly sound the alarm on the urgent need to defend fair representation.

Her words may have been brief, but they carry weight. For months, grassroots voices have been pressing Colorado leaders to recognize that while our state has an independent redistricting commission, partisan moves in other states — like Texas and Florida — directly impact Colorado’s representation in Congress. By changing their maps mid-decade, these states tilt the balance of power nationally, leaving states like Colorado vulnerable if we simply wait until 2030 to act again.

Calvarese’s willingness to acknowledge the stakes is an important step. It signals that at least some Democrats in Colorado are ready to take this fight seriously — not just as a matter of politics, but as a matter of protecting democracy.

We hope her call is just the beginning. More voices must rise to demand emergency redistricting powers for Colorado’s Governor and Legislature, so that we can respond when other states break the rules to weaken our voice in Washington.

This is about defense, not partisanship. It is about ensuring that Colorado voters, especially Latino, Indigenous, and working-class communities, are not silenced by decisions made hundreds of miles away.

Trisha Calvarese said, “let’s go.” Now, the question is: who will join her?
