Colorado Democrats Must Meet the Moment
We have been thinking a lot about why Colorado Democrats don’t take up the fight the way others have in recent months. The answer seems to lie in a desire to preserve some sense of political correctness — to avoid appearing too bold, too aggressive, or too willing to challenge the opposition in ways that might upset the usual norms of politics.
But what good are those norms if the other side has abandoned them entirely? What good is political correctness if it leaves our state and our voters defenseless against those who are redrawing the rules of democracy to benefit themselves?
Any Democratic leader who is not willing to meet the moment should not be given a platform to run for president. Our party’s base is tired of leaders who hide behind polite caution while our representation is diminished and our future is put at risk. If you want to lead, you must be willing to fight — unapologetically, urgently, and with the same seriousness that our opponents bring to dismantling democracy.
Right now, it seems like the only person to meet the moment is a man from California. But this should not be the case. Colorado has the chance to lead, to show the rest of the country what it looks like when Democrats play hardball to defend fairness. Instead, too many of our leaders seem content to watch from the sidelines.
The time for political correctness is over. The time for courage is now.
